My Lifebook Experience

On February 10, 2011, I went to Chicago for 4 days with my husband (yes – I dragged him there), to work on my Lifebook. So many of my close friends had gone through the process and they all told me how life changing these 4 days had been on their lives…so, I went! After recovering from the shock of being right beside the studio where Oprah films each day, I began my Lifebook journey!

Indeed what an incredible experience it was to sit down for 4 full days and think about what you want your life to be like from here on. Of course, a Lifebook is a work in progress. You must always think about what you want and how to achieve it. I came out of these 4 days in Chicago with a 1st draft of my Lifebook which I intend to keep working on to make it better.

What Is a Lifebook?

A Lifebook is divided in 12 categories. For each category we received videos to guide us and to help us dig deeper and ask ourselves the right questions. Each category begins with four main questions: What is your premise? What is your vision? What is your purpose? And, What is your strategy?

The goal is to ensure that we identify what we want and work towards reaching those goals. One thing I learned is that you don’t have to attend a “real” Lifebook session (though I highly recommend it!). Utilizing the 12 categories, you too can sit down and create a plan for your life. Please take the time for yourself and do this valuable exercise. It can only bring more focus, clarity, fulfillment and happiness into your life. Enjoy!

  1. My Health and Fitness – This Lifebook chapter addresses a foundational area of our life. Many of us struggle to manage our health and fitness without fully understanding the role it plays in our lives. It has a huge impact every other aspect of our life, and gives us the insight and motivation to take our health and fitness to a higher level. Ask yourself: What is my premise for Health and Fitness? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  2. My Intellectual Life – This Lifebook category focuses on one of our most important assets – our mind. When our mind is healthy and our intellect stimulated, we think rationally, make clear decisions, and pursue our goals with confidence. But with the high demands of daily life, it’s easy to become mentally overloaded, which leads to confusion, stress, and negative thoughts that can compromise our intellectual powers. Few people truly understand the power of their mind and, those who do have a significant advantage. Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Intellectual Life? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  3. My Emotional Life – This fascinating category focuses on the emotions that affect us every day, but can sometimes be difficult to understand. When our emotional outlook is healthy, it has a positive effect on every other area of our life. Alternatively, chronic emotional distress has a devastating impact on everything from our health and fitness to relationships, careers and finances. It can even lead to physical illness. Bringing consciousness to our emotional life yields enormous benefits. Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Emotional Life? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  4. My Character – This category focuses on the very foundation of who we are as a person. The path your life takes is determined, for better or worse, by your character. Our character controls how we deal with pressures and temptation. It defines our limits – or gives us the strength to move beyond them. It determines how we handle our relationships, our careers, our health and fitness – virtually every aspect of our life. Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Character? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  5. My Spiritual Life – This chapter addresses an issue that is every bit as fascinating to explore as it is challenging to define. Spirituality has been an important part of every culture in human history. Yet, it is very difficult for people to agree on exactly what spirituality means. Few of us take the time to think through and clarify our personal spirituals beliefs, even though the benefits of doing so can be immense. Bringing consciousness to our spirituality will give us power, clarity, and inner strength that we can’t create any other way. Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Spiritual Life? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  6. My Love Relationship – This category is about a subject that, perhaps more than any other, directly affects our level of happiness. A fulfilling love relationship can produce tremendous joy, amazing memories, and a lifetime of emotional and physical pleasure. A poor love relationship on the other hand, can produce painful emotions, stress, uncertainty, and negativity. This is the most intimate of all categories, and one that can yield amazing benefits if we have the courage to uncover our deepest-held feelings and core emotions. Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Love Relationship? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  7. Parenting – This category focuses on a part of life that is simultaneously crazy, demanding, painful and rewarding. Raising a child can be one of the richest, deepest experiences life has to offer. It’s an intellectual, emotional and spiritual journey, and truly one of the most important life categories. Yet, very few parents have taken the time to clearly define their own values – let alone carefully plan the most loving and effective away to instil them in their children. Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Parenting? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  8. My Social Life – Most of us have heard the advice, “choose your friends wisely.” Of course, we all know that phrase to be true on some level, but in reality, it’s truer than most people recognize. The people we choose as our friends can contribute greatly to our success…or our failure. However, most people never take the time to consider what they really want and need from their social relationships. Bringing consciousness to this area will move our life forward in wonderful and unexpected ways. Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Social Life? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  9. My Financial Life – This category helps you to address one of the single most important factors influencing our overall quality of life – money. For most of us, money is a subject that tends to be surrounded by mixed signals, mystery and confusion. We’re taught that the love of money is the root of all evil yet, just about everyone we know spends most of their waking hours trying to make more of it! Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Financial Life? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  10. My Career – This category addresses the part of our lives that takes up the most significant amount of our time and attention. Whether you are a CEO, a stay-at-home mom, a plumber, an entrepreneur, a salesman, a scientist or in any other career – everyone wants to spend most of their time doing something they enjoy. But, by developing the clarity to see and pursue you ideal career path, you will have in your hands the power to improve your entire life.  Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Career? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  11. My Quality of Life – Consider the things we’d like to own, the environments we’d like to be surrounded by, and the experiences we’d like to have. Each of these things can greatly enhance our life in important and sometimes unexpected ways. As you delve into this category you will discover that your quality of life can lead to rewarding spiritual, intellectual and emotional breakthroughs and improve who you are as a human being. Ask yourself: What is my premise for My Quality of Life? What is my vision? What is my purpose? And, What is my strategy?
  12. My Life Vision – This category is very different that the others. This category is about experiencing the life we intend to create so you can see it feel it, touch it and taste it…Experience it, crystal clear, vivid and compelling. Once we know exactly what our future holds, our Life Vision will begin to pull us forward every day. And one day we’ll discover that we’re living the life we’ve imagined!
