To Pin or Not to Pin: Why You Should Join Pinterest Today.

Pinterest is quickly becoming one of the most popular social networking platforms on the Internet. It is also one of the most original, making it a tad overwhelming at first. Pinterest newcomers, this blog is for you!

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a pinboard-style social photo sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, hobbies, and more. Users can browse other pinboards for inspiration, ‘re-pin’ images to their own collections and/or ‘like’ photos.

Why Should You Use Pinterest?

Connect and Develop Relationships: We’ve all heard the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” and Pinterest uses this to its advantage. It allows you to share your ideas and interests using merely an image. Repinning someone’s pin is a quick and easy way to say “I am interested in the same things that you are!”

Share content: Bring traffic to your website, blog, or youtube page by sharing links to health and wellness resources. The “Pin It” button allows you to share information from virtually any website by drawing all images from that site and allowing you to choose which image will represent the link. Your followers will see the image as well as the short description accompanying it. And if they click on the image they will be redirected to your website, blog, or youtube page!

Increase visibility and reputation: Through simply pinning and repining images to your boards you are increasing your visibility on Pinterest. Share your work, offer insightful comments, pin advice, tips and useful resources from your respective fields of expertize, and position yourself as an expert in your niche.

Build backlinks: Each image that you pin or repin links back to its source (be it your information or someone elses!). Create your own pins to build backlinks by following the steps below:

1. Select “Add +” and then select “Upload a Pin”
2. Select “Browse” and then open an image from your computer
3. Select a relevant Board to categorize your pin*
4. “Describe your pin” by providing a hook and the title of the article in 500 characters or less
5. Select “Pin It” and then select “Edit”
6. In the “Link” field, paste the URL to your published article, select “Save Pin,” and you’re done!
* Boards categorize the information/images you are pinning. I suggest creating the following boards – Health News You Can Use, Chiropractic, Products I adore, Favourite Books and Movies, Wellness Tips, and so on.

Seek out blog post ideas: Need ideas for future blogs? Pinterest is a great way to get inspired! We’ve all heard the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” and Pinterest uses this to its advantage. Sometimes all it takes is a picture or quote to get those creative juices flowing!

Promote company products and services: Pinterest is a great way to introduce people to the services and products you offer at your clinic. Create boards for each of your services. I have a Chiropractic board, an Orthotic board, and an Es-Tek Full Body Analysis board where I post relevant repins and original pins. In my Supplement for Better Health board I post products that I carry in my Wellness Store with little tid-bits of information. Use images with a clear message, as the information you are relaying should be predominately visual.

Endorse the books, documentaries, and products you love: Add a personal touch by pinning and repinning quotes, books, documentaries and products you love! This will allow people to get a sense of who you are, making it easier to decide if you are worth following!

Happy Pinning!
